1. REDUCE RECYCLE BIN MAXIMUM SIZE

This is set fairly high by default, we recommend setting it to 10 GB or 10,000 MB. To do this right click on the recycle bin icon and select "Properties" now you would see custom size, enter the click apply

To turn it off, click Start and then type cmd in the Start Search box. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator. Type exit and then press Enter to close the Command Prompt window.

5. CONTROL YOUR START UP PROGRAMS

These are those little icons that pop up in the bottom right of your taskbar, and programs that load in the background when you start up your operating system.

6. MSCONFIG COMMAND

To access it, click your start button and type in msconfig in the search box and press enter. This will bring up a window with the title System Configuration Utility. Theirs a lot more you do with this, but I won't go into it now. Select the start up tab and this will show you whats starting up and from where it's loading from. Now uncheck the boxes to disable those programs from starting up


7. TURN OFF INDEXING SERVICE ON HARD DRIVE

Open your Windows Explorer and go to drive (C) or your preferred one, click it once then right click it and select Properties. Then uncheck the option down the bottom of the window and click ok or apply.

8. DISABLING PERFORMANCE SETTINGS

Hold down your windows key and press your pause key, then click Advanced System Settings on the left hand side of the window. Then in the System Properties box window click the Advanced tab and click the settings button under the Performance heading. Now select Custom and tick only the last 3 options.

This will run a Disk Cleanup program on your computer, which will free up space in your hard drive and may also boost performance.

This will run a Disk Check, which will fix any problems you may be having with your hard drive. Warning: this takes a really, really long time and it will lag your computer. It’s a good thing to do now and again, though.

This will open a screen that lets you change your display, display orientation, and display resolution.

Know the name of a program file but don’t feel like searching for it? Just type in the name of the proper executable after start, and you’ll be good to go. If you use Google Chrome, a good example would be:

COMPUTER viruses should be treated as a life form, Stephen Hawking, the British physicist and leading theorist on the origins of the Universe, has told an audience of computer enthusiasts in the United States.

In a speech on the nature of life, Professor Hawking said computer viruses fit standard definitions of living systems, even though they have no metabolism of their own. The computer virus exploits the metabolism of the host computer it infects, and becomes a parasite. This parasitic existence is a key characteristic of biological viruses, as is the ability to replicate only inside the cells of a living host.

'I think computer viruses should count as life,' Professor Hawking told the computer trade show in Boston.

Computer viruses are pieces of rogue computer code. Some are relatively harmless, just as flu or glandular fever can be survived. Others can cause serious, permanent damage to computer data, just as HIV can be devastating to humans. Computer viruses spread by attaching themselves to legitimate code, which they use as a passport into a clean computer. On a network, where computers are closely linked, infection can spread rapidly. This echoes infection by biological viruses, which usually takes place after intimate contact. A spate of particularly nasty computer viruses recently hit the UK, traced to a writer called 'the Black Baron'. They differ from those that have gone before in that they can change the way they appear from the outside every time they infect a computer. This makes detection very difficult, but again mirrors the behavior of some of Nature's worst viruses, which mutate as they pass from host to host.

Richard Dawkins, author of the The Selfish Gene and professor of evolutionary zoology at Oxford University, said that although Professor Hawking's claim was interesting, even biological viruses are on the borderline between living and non-living things.

'Although I would agree with Stephen Hawking that computer viruses are approximately as alive as ordinary viruses, that's not very alive.' He said his criteria for identifying a living thing would be that it should have some independence, which both biological and computer viruses lack.
